Accord Party Cuts Ties With Imumolen, Throws Weight Behind Adeleke In Osun.
The Accord Party has officially distanced itself from statements made by its former presidential candidate, Chris Imumolen, and endorsed Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke as its legitimate governorship candidate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The party’s National Coordinator, Rev. Isaac Adeniyi, issued the statement in Benin on Monday, clarifying that Imumolen’s criticisms of Adeleke’s defection to the Accord Party are “reckless” and “without legal basis.” According to Adeniyi, Imumolen’s faction organized a parallel primary, claiming him as National Chairman and appointing an alternative National Working Committee, but these actions are illegal and invalid. The party urged the public to disregard Imumolen’s group and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to discredit it.
The legal tussle began on December 3 when a faction of the Accord Party filed a suit at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, seeking to annul the party’s upcoming Osun governorship primaries and uphold the suspension of the National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem. The suit, instituted by Oliver Bitrus, claimed that Mgbudem and his deputy were suspended for alleged anti-party activities and that Imumolen was subsequently appointed as the party’s national leader based on a Federal High Court ruling.
Despite this, INEC recognised the results of the primary that produced Adeleke as the party’s candidate. Adeniyi reaffirmed that Adeleke was duly registered as a member of the Accord Party, obtained the nomination form, and was elected according to party procedures. He commended INEC for acknowledging Adeleke’s candidacy and expressed confidence that the governor will win the forthcoming Osun governorship election.
“The Accord Party congratulates Governor Ademola Adeleke for emerging as the party’s governorship candidate. Those sponsoring Imumolen know for sure that Adeleke will prevail in the upcoming election,” Adeniyi said.
