Tension In Ijebu: KWAM 1’s Ancestry Challenge Throws Awujale Race Into Turmoil.

Fuji maestro Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, has officially submitted his royal lineage data form to the Fusengbuwa ruling house, the family currently positioned to produce the next Awujale of Ijebu-Ode. According to Nivo News, the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa ruling house, Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi, confirmed on Wednesday that the musician’s documents had been received and that an emergency family meeting has been scheduled for Thursday at Ile Nla to deliberate on his ambition.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Awujale throne became vacant in July after the passing of the revered 91-year-old Oba Sikiru Adetona. As part of the selection process, contenders are mandated to complete a genealogical form tracing their ancestry back seven generations to confirm their rightful membership in the ruling house. Owoyemi explained that the requirement is intended to prevent individuals without legitimate ties from attempting to claim the throne. He noted that once a contender’s lineage is verified, they may then proceed to obtain the official expression of interest form.

Although the window for collecting forms closed on Friday, December 5, KWAM 1 was reportedly granted a five-day extension, which expired on Wednesday, December 10. Owoyemi disclosed that Ayinde sent a representative to submit the form and that the ruling house would address all nomination concerns during Thursday’s meeting.

The celebrated artiste, who holds the traditional title of Olori Omooba of Ijebu land, has long been associated with the Fidipote royal lineage. His decision to pursue the crown through the Jadiara unit of the Fusengbuwa ruling house has therefore raised considerable curiosity. His documents are said to outline his descent from the Setejoye family unit of the Jadiara royal arm through his father, Adisa Adesanya Anifowoshe.

However, his claim has been met with stiff opposition from key royal figures. According to Nivo News, the Chairman of the Jadiara ruling house, Otunba Akinola Odedina, openly refuted Ayinde’s assertion in a letter circulating online, insisting that the musician has no genealogical link to their royal lineage. He stated that despite being issued a nomination form, Ayinde has yet to present any documents proving that connection. In a similar stance, Alhaji O. B. Yusuf, Chairman of the Bubiade royal family, also dismissed any relationship between the musician’s paternal line and their lineage.

His call is against the backdrop of a recent statement by the Senator representing Osun East, Francis Fadahunsi, who was captured in a viral video telling his supporters to kill members of the Accord Party ahead of the governorship election in the state.

The ex-CDS said, “For me as a person, any time we hear individuals making inciting comments, I think that such people should be picked up immediately, and that is why I am glad that even though the statement made by Senator Fadahunsi is a political one, but I think that it also borders on incitement to violence.

“I think the police have done the right thing by inviting him, and he should be questioned even beyond that.”

He also demanded the arrest of Islamic clerics Sani Jingir and Ahmad Gumi over inciting statements they had made at different times.

Added to that is, of course, the Sheikh in Kano, Sheikh Jingir, who also made some comments which, of course, I believe are also inciting, that could also add to the bouquet of threats that we have.

“He also should be arrested and I also believe that the various comments that someone like Gumi has been making also demands that he be called not just to order but of course invited and arrested in other to let the populace know that there is nobody who is above the law and then when you say things that are not right you should be called in to answer,” the former service chief added.
