Labour Party Blasts Peter Obi, Calls Him A “Verbal Member” Lacking Commitment.

Published

on

The Labour Party (LP) has renewed its internal criticism of its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, with the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, describing him as merely a “verbal member” who has not demonstrated tangible commitment or provided financial backing to the party. Ifoh, who spoke in an interview monitored by Nivo News, suggested that tensions between the party’s leadership and its most prominent figure have continued to widen.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to the spokesman, Obi has failed to participate actively in party activities and has not contributed financially to strengthening the LP’s structure, despite consistently identifying himself as a member. Ifoh insisted that beyond verbal declarations, there has been little evidence of Obi’s involvement in the party.

These remarks come even as Obi has repeatedly reaffirmed his loyalty to the Labour Party in numerous public engagements since the 2023 elections, often dismissing speculation about possible defection. Ifoh acknowledged that Obi’s entry into the party significantly boosted its national appeal, drawing widespread support from the “Obidient” movement and improving its performance during the polls. However, he maintained that the LP has a history and operational system that predates Obi’s membership.

He explained that the party, established in 2002, had already produced a governor, senators, and lawmakers before Obi joined in 2022, adding that all members—no matter their political stature—must comply with the party’s rules. Ifoh urged anyone seeking to join or contest on the party’s platform to respect its regulations.

Addressing reports of internal crisis, Ifoh dismissed them as exaggerated reactions to the party’s growing success rather than signs of genuine division. He accused certain individuals, particularly former members of the Obidient movement, of acting as “imposters” who believed their electoral support entitled them to seize control of the party.

He revealed that preparations for the 2027 elections are underway, noting that the LP will begin opening its programs early in 2026 to consolidate unity and welcome new supporters. Ifoh insisted that the party has no factions, only individuals attempting to impose themselves on a structure built long before their involvement.

“I used to deny my dad whenever I went to the studio down our street. I didn’t want people to know because they’d treat me differently. It all paid off—now they know I was genuinely good at music. “My daddy was ready to give me anything. He built me a studio that cost over $100,000 back then. I was still in school, and I’d come home every weekend to work on music.”
