IMN Leader Vows Guns Cannot Intimidate Millions Of Shiite Followers.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday ahead of the anniversary of the deadly clash, El-Zakzaky described the IMN as “a power to be reckoned with,” commending the dedication and resilience of its millions of members in the face of state oppression.
El-Zakzaky highlighted the courage of his followers, emphasizing that their numbers and commitment have made them impervious to intimidation. “Even if you oppose us, you know that we are millions. Guns cannot frighten us because we have faced them. There are pictures of people approaching shooters with nothing in their hands,” he said.
When questioned about whether he had forgiven the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, whose administration oversaw the military operation, El-Zakzaky stated that they would meet on the Day of Judgment. He recounted a conversation with one of Buhari’s ministers while he was injured, saying, “I told the minister I am waiting for my blood to drain so that I may pass, and I sent my greetings to General Buhari. I hope they govern well. We will meet on the Day of Judgment.”
The 2015 Zaria clash occurred during a Maulud celebration when IMN members reportedly blocked a major highway, delaying the convoy of the then Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai. The confrontation escalated into violence, with soldiers opening fire. The IMN insists its members were unarmed, describing the military’s action as excessive, while the army claimed it was responding to a threat. Subsequent coordinated attacks on IMN sites, including El-Zakzaky’s residence, led to hundreds of deaths according to human rights organizations, figures the military has disputed.
Following years of detention and protracted legal battles, El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, were released in July 2021 after a Kaduna State High Court discharged and acquitted them of all charges.
