Oyebamiji, widely known as AMBO, is a former Finance Commissioner with eight years of service across two APC administrations. Several disqualified aspirants have expressed their support for the consensus approach ahead of the party’s primary, scheduled for Saturday.
The potential APC candidate is expected to contest against Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party and Dr. Najeem Salam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in next year’s election. The party previously employed a similar consensus strategy in Ekiti State, which resulted in Governor Biodun Oyebanji emerging as the APC candidate.
The meeting, which aimed to avert post-primary disputes that could undermine the party’s chances, included former Deputy Governor Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke (SAN), Babatunde Harater Oralusi, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh, and Oyebamiji himself. Key APC leaders such as National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum Governor Hope Uzodimma, and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola were also present.
President Tinubu commended all aspirants for their contributions to the party in Osun State and urged them to support the eventual consensus candidate. He warned against internal divisions, emphasizing that unity and party supremacy are crucial for securing victory in the state. He assured the aspirants of his and the national leadership’s full backing for a successful campaign.
At the conclusion of the meeting, all aspirants and party leaders issued a joint statement affirming their commitment to the consensus process, pledging to respect the outcome of the party’s nomination and to work collectively to ensure APC’s success in Osun State.
