AFCON Deadline Looms As Nigeria Struggles With Controversial Squad Picks.

Insiders disclosed that some high-ranking officials in the NFF sought to influence player selection, causing a postponement in the announcement. NFF Media Director Ademola Olajire confirmed that the squad list will be made public today, emphasizing that the delay was not due to logistical issues.
Confederation of African Football (CAF) regulations require all 24 participating countries to submit their squad lists by today. Teams must provide up to 23 players, with an option to expand to 28, provided the federation covers the cost of the additional slots. Failure to meet the deadline could result in sanctions, including a reduction in squad slots from 23 to 21.
The NFF source indicated that officials have been working to resolve selection issues without interfering with Coach Eric Chelle’s preparations. The Super Eagles’ training camp will open in Cairo on Saturday following FIFA’s directive that clubs release players by December 15 for AFCON participation.
Preparations for a friendly against Egypt, initially scheduled for December 14, are being adjusted as the Nigerian delegation arrives in Cairo on December 13. The team will have up to three days to prepare before the friendly on December 16. Another warm-up match in Cairo is also planned before departure to Morocco.
In the tournament, the Super Eagles will open Group C action against Tanzania on December 23 at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, followed by matches against Tunisia on December 27 and Uganda on December 31.
