Akpabio And Natasha Akpoti’s Birthday Moment Sparks Laughter Amid Senate Rift.
According to reports, a subtle drama played out on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday during the customary recognition of lawmakers celebrating December birthdays, as Senate President Godswill Akpabio marked his 63rd birthday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Coincidentally, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, also celebrated her birthday on December 9, turning 47.
Traditionally, the Senate President acknowledges senators celebrating their birthdays by calling their names for best wishes from colleagues. On Tuesday, Akpabio first announced his own name before pausing and adding, “and another person, Distinguished Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan,” drawing laughter from the chamber as he chuckled while mentioning his colleague.
While the moment appeared lighthearted, observers noted the underlying tension between Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan, who are reportedly not on cordial terms. Their long-standing rift resurfaced recently after Akpoti-Uduaghan revealed that Akpabio filed a ₦200 billion lawsuit against her following a sexual harassment allegation she made earlier in the year.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was previously suspended for six months by the Senate for alleged misconduct and violation of Senate Standing Rules, stemming from a dispute over seating arrangements that escalated into disorderly conduct during plenary sessions. The Senate clarified that her suspension was not related to her sexual harassment allegation against Akpabio, which had attracted public attention.
Since resuming duties on October 7, Akpoti-Uduaghan has maintained a low profile, contrasting with her previously active presence on the Senate floor. Both lawmakers have reportedly avoided each other in recent weeks, highlighting the strained relationship.
Tuesday’s birthday recognition, though lighthearted, marked a rare moment of public acknowledgment between Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan amid ongoing tensions.
