In a statement shared on his account on Monday, Moore said it was an honour to meet with Bishop Wilfred Anagbe, Bishop Isaac Dugu, and His Royal Highness James Ioruza, the traditional ruler of the Tiv people, during his visit. “It was deeply moving to meet with these leaders to discuss the ongoing genocidal campaign by the Fulani in Benue State. Our brothers and sisters in Christ will no longer suffer in silence. The United States has heard your cries, and we are working diligently toward solutions,” he stated.

Moore also held talks with Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, focusing on terrorism in the North-East and targeted killings in the Middle Belt. He emphasized that the issues discussed were of particular concern to both himself and former US President Donald Trump, noting that the meetings identified concrete steps to strengthen security cooperation between the two countries.

He further highlighted the formation of a joint task force between Nigeria and the United States as a positive step, while urging that Nigeria’s openness to collaboration must lead to tangible results. Moore also praised the recent rescue of 100 kidnapped Catholic schoolchildren in Niger State, extending gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and Nigerian authorities for their efforts.

The Nigerian government has repeatedly rejected claims of systemic persecution of Christians, insisting that insecurity affects all citizens regardless of faith.

The US House Subcommittee on Africa has also investigated the situation, with House Republicans warning about the rising threat of religious violence. Moore concluded his visit expressing optimism about deeper US-Nigeria collaboration. “There is much work still to be done, but things are moving in the right direction. I look forward to the next steps with the Nigerian government and the continued open dialogue,” he said.
