“Ex-Army General Applauds Heroic Rescue Of 100 Niger Schoolchildren”.
Retired Major General John Enenche, the pioneer Director of Defence Media Operations and former Commandant of the Army War College, has praised the military and security agencies for the successful rescue of 100 schoolchildren abducted in Niger State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on a national television program, Enenche described the achievement as highly significant, highlighting the challenges of conducting rescue operations in areas dominated by armed bandits.
“My view is that the government and security forces have done remarkably well, and Nigerians should take pride in this. It was a situation that seemed almost hopeless,” he said.
Enenche recalled that following the November 21 attack on St Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, only about 40 pupils were initially rescued out of more than 300 children and staff abducted.
“Initially, only around 40 were brought back after the attack that took over 300 lives into uncertainty. Now, reaching 100 is no small feat. The means used to achieve this are not easy, and the security agencies will naturally keep the details confidential,” he added.
He emphasized that the methods employed—whether through negotiation, tactical maneuvers, or other strategies—were less important than the successful outcome.
“Regardless of the approach, whether it involved strategic bargaining, non-kinetic methods, or other measures, the essential point is that the lives of 100 children have been saved, which is a very positive sign,” Enenche stated.
The abduction on November 21 involved gunmen attacking the remote Papiri community around 2 a.m., taking more than 300 pupils and teachers from the school.
