Wike Vows To Save PDP From Collapse At NEC Meeting.

Published

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has pledged to do everything within his power to prevent the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from collapsing. He emphasized that founding members of the party would not allow newcomers from other political formations to undermine its legacy.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Wike made the remarks on Sunday in Abuja during the 104th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of his PDP faction held at his official residence. He accused the rival faction of flouting court rulings by holding what he termed an “illegal convention,” stressing that adherence to judicial processes is crucial for restoring public trust in the party.

Addressing the opposing faction, Wike said, “You approached a State High Court to compel INEC to hold a convention and obtained an ex-parte order to override Federal High Court judgments. How can one defy two final judgments and still claim leadership? You went ahead with the convention without following the law, and now you seek recognition from a Federal High Court. If INEC recognizes you, what is the purpose of the court?”

He further criticized the faction for spreading propaganda and warned that personal ambitions should not be allowed to destroy the party, which has been active since 1998. “We must not allow our party to die. True leadership demands commitment and honesty, not propaganda. Without respecting our own rules, how can we earn respect from Nigerians?” Wike stressed.

The FCT Minister called on party members to rally behind lawful leadership and work together to rebuild the PDP in line with democratic principles and judicial integrity.

Separately, the PDP National Executive Committee has been urged to establish a Caretaker Committee to guide the party forward as the tenure of the current National Working Committee expires. The appeal was made by Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Chairman of the factional Board of Trustees (BoT), during the NEC meeting. The BoT also noted the creation of caretaker leadership in certain states and zones, including Anambra and the South-East, where congresses had not been conducted, describing the move as necessary to prevent leadership gaps and strengthen party organization.
