According to Nivo News, media entrepreneur and Ovation magazine publisher, Dele Momodu, has narrated how he narrowly avoided being caught in the unfolding military coup in the Republic of Benin. The incident occurred on Sunday after a faction of soldiers announced they had removed President Patrice Talon from office, months before the end of his 10-year tenure scheduled for April next year.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The group, identifying themselves as the Military Committee for Refoundation (CMR), took over the state broadcaster to declare that President Talon had been ousted following what they described as a decisive meeting on the nation’s political future.

Momodu, writing on his handle, explained that he and his entourage were supposed to travel by road to Accra, Ghana, early that morning, but a missing car document altered their plans entirely. He revealed that he discovered late on Saturday night that the original vehicle papers could not be found, despite searching both his Victoria Island Home Office and his Penthouse office in Ikoyi.

Realizing the delay, he informed his travel partner, Rotimi Obey—son of legendary musician Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey—of the need to abandon the road trip for a flight instead. He also contacted his Beninese associate, Alex Dalmeida, who was already in Lagos to guide them through the French-speaking borders, to cancel the planned journey.

Momodu said his travel consultant secured flight tickets shortly after 11 p.m., and it was while they were at the airport preparing to board that they learned of the coup announcement in Benin Republic. He described their narrow escape as divine intervention, saying they “barely missed it by the whiskers.”

Reacting to the development, he expressed shock over the military takeover, noting that Benin has long been considered one of the most stable and peaceful nations in West Africa. He added that the coup followed shortly after President Talon reportedly amended the constitution to extend his stay in office.
