Matawalle Defends Right To Lead Defence Ministry, Slams Politicization Of Security.
According to reports, Ibrahim Maigandi Dan Malikin, Special Adviser on Political Matters to the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has strongly defended his principal against recent claims questioning his suitability for the defence portfolio.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Dan Malikin described the criticisms as politically motivated fabrications and emphasized that Matawalle possesses the competence, experience, and leadership qualities required for the role. Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, he dismissed assertions that the Defence Ministry should be led exclusively by a military officer, noting that such claims demonstrate a misunderstanding of Nigeria’s history.
He highlighted that civilian leadership in defence administration has precedent, citing former Ministers of Defence including Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, and Adetokunbo Kayode, who successfully managed the ministry during critical periods.
The aide also defended Matawalle’s tenure as Governor of Zamfara State, where he combated widespread banditry and kidnapping using a combination of military action and dialogue-based interventions. He noted that the security strategies introduced under Matawalle were later adopted by neighboring states such as Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, and Sokoto, contributing to measurable improvements in regional security.
Dan Malikin stressed that insecurity should not be politicized, describing it as a national challenge that requires unity, cooperation, and genuine commitment. He further refuted claims regarding Matawalle’s educational qualifications, confirming that the minister met all constitutional requirements and was duly screened and cleared by the Senate.
He accused political opponents of spreading false narratives to undermine Matawalle’s growing national profile, asserting that clarifications were necessary to prevent the circulation of misleading information among Nigerians.
