Why Security Operatives Can’t Trace Bandits On TikTok — Aso Rock Breaks Silence.

Published

on

The Presidency has explained why security operatives struggle to trace armed bandits who display ransom money on TikTok and other social media platforms. According to Nivo News, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, revealed that the inability to track such criminals is largely due to the type of internet services they use.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Bwala, who spoke during an interview on Nigeria Info radio, reacted to concerns over why authorities swiftly track and arrest Nigerians who express grievances online but cannot apprehend bandits responsible for killings and widespread destruction across the country. He stated that ordinary Nigerians use internet services that operate within Nigeria’s regulatory framework, making it easy for security agencies to identify their digital footprints.

He explained that the country has a regulatory body that maintains a database of Nigerian subscribers and their phone numbers, as well as agencies that oversee internet service providers. These structures, he said, allow authorities to trace users through their IP addresses when the service originates from within Nigeria.

Bwala noted that bandits exploit foreign or satellite-based internet services, which fall outside Nigeria’s regulatory coverage. He cited Starlink as an example, stating that it cannot be tracked locally because it is not registered within the country. He added that many terrorists also rely on cellular networks from neighbouring countries, a tactic that makes digital tracking extremely difficult for Nigerian security agencies.
