“I want you to know that when I decided to come to Owerri, I read some reports suggesting potential security issues. I decided to come regardless, and I feel perfectly safe here today,” Johnson stated, acknowledging the governor’s efforts to maintain security.
His comments come amid nationwide security challenges, including recent abductions and attacks, which prompted President Bola Tinubu to declare a security emergency. The United States, under President Donald Trump, had also recently designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” citing concerns over attacks on Christian communities.
Johnson lauded Governor Uzodimma’s initiatives to provide 24-hour electricity in Imo State and emphasized the role of Artificial Intelligence in achieving sustainable energy solutions. He further highlighted the deep historic and cultural ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, noting ongoing exchanges of professionals and expertise in various sectors.
“Your focus on electricity is completely right. The future is AI, and through it, sustainable energy will be transformative,” Johnson said. He also praised the bilateral exchange of talent and innovation, noting contributions from both nations in pharmaceuticals, technology, and governance.
President Tinubu, represented at the summit by Vice President Kashim Shettima, described Imo State as a hub of untapped investment opportunities. He encouraged both local and international investors to explore the state’s potential, emphasizing that Africa is emerging as the next destination for global investment.
Other dignitaries, including Liberia’s President Joseph Boakai, Mauritius’ former President Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, and former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, praised Imo State’s initiatives and highlighted the importance of innovation, renewable energy, and technological advancement for Africa’s economic growth.
Governor Uzodimma reaffirmed Imo State’s readiness for investment, citing robust security, infrastructure, power supply, and an enabling business environment as key incentives for investors. “Imo is no longer rising; Imo has risen. When opportunity meets investment, transformative business happens. Imo is ready to harvest your investments,” he declared.
