According to Nivo News, troops of the Headquarters 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have eliminated two suspected bandits, dismantled several criminal hideouts, and arrested a key suspect during a series of coordinated operations in Taraba State. The operations, conducted under the codename Operation Zafin Wuta, commenced on December 2 across Shiid, Agia, and Tyozua communities in the Takum Local Government Area. The mission followed credible intelligence suggesting the presence of armed groups operating within the Tor-Tser axis. During the sweep, troops apprehended a man identified as Dahiru Maigari, who is believed to be connected to multiple criminal activities in the region.
According to Nivo News, the army revealed that as troops advanced into the mountainous hideouts, the bandits retreated further into the rugged terrain, abandoning their camps. The soldiers carried out a thorough search before setting the camps ablaze, debunking claims by the criminals that the area was impossible for security personnel to access. While in Tyozua, the fleeing bandits reportedly set fire to a wooden bridge to hinder troop movement, but the soldiers continued their advance and forced the armed men toward the Benue boundary. Maigari was later taken into custody and is currently undergoing preliminary interrogation.
In a separate operation on December 4, soldiers conducted a fighting patrol around Karim Lamido and surrounding areas to restrict the movement of armed groups. While advancing toward Usmanu, the patrol team came under fire from bandits concealed near the Wudompi Community. Troops immediately engaged the attackers, killing two and recovering an AK-47 rifle along with 21 rounds of ammunition. No casualties were recorded among the soldiers. The attackers were believed to be members of the Karimjo faction responsible for recent attempts to regroup in the area.
Nivo News reports that security around Karim Lamido remains stable, with troops maintaining a heightened state of alert following the successful engagements. The Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the professionalism and bravery of the troops involved. He maintained that the latest operations reaffirm the Nigerian Army’s ability to operate in any terrain and pursue criminal elements wherever they may flee, assuring residents that efforts to eliminate threats to peace in Taraba State will be sustained.
