The centres, which will be located across key regions of the country, represent the first phase of a broad national diagnostic expansion initiative designed to improve access to early disease detection and essential medical testing for Nigerians.
As part of the rollout, NSIA and MedServe are set to sign a 10-year partnership with GE HealthCare for the supply of cutting-edge diagnostic equipment, including CT scanners, mammography systems, digital X-rays, and advanced ultrasound machines. The agreement also covers long-term technical support and capacity-building programmes for Nigerian healthcare professionals.
MedServe’s Managing Director and CEO, Tolu Adewole, described the initiative as a “pivotal milestone in Nigeria’s healthcare journey,” emphasizing that the fusion of global medical technology with local expertise would strengthen the national healthcare system and widen access to reliable diagnostic services for millions of citizens. He added that the centres would play a crucial role in enhancing early detection and timely treatment of diseases.
George Uduku, General Manager of GE HealthCare West Africa, said the collaboration underscores a shared commitment to bridging Nigeria’s diagnostic gap. He noted that improving access to modern imaging services remains essential to advancing public health outcomes. According to him, bringing these technologies closer to communities will support earlier diagnosis, better treatment decisions, and strengthened local capacity through sustained training and technical support.
Nivo News reports that the new diagnostic centres are expected to significantly reduce long-distance travel for medical tests, cut delays in diagnosis, and improve early detection of various health conditions across the country.
