The governor made the remarks during a high-level consultative meeting with leaders of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at the Government House in Maiduguri. The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the state government and religious organizations to tackle insecurity and promote lasting peace.

Addressing the gathering, Zulum stressed the pivotal role of religious leaders in fostering tolerance, unity, and social cohesion. “We must collectively reject narratives that frame our security challenges in religious terms. Boko Haram’s attacks target our civilization and humanity, affecting Muslims and Christians alike. Both mosques and churches have been destroyed indiscriminately,” he said.

He further noted that the majority of victims have been Muslims, underscoring the indiscriminate nature of the violence. “While every life lost is tragic, the data clearly shows that more Muslims than Christians have suffered death, abduction, and displacement. This shared tragedy calls for a united response, as suffering recognizes no sect,” Zulum said.

On reconstruction efforts, the governor highlighted that the Borno State Government has rebuilt 45 Christian worship centers destroyed during the insurgency. “Our reconstruction and resettlement initiatives are driven by justice, equity, and inclusivity, not by religion or ethnicity. We rebuild based on need and our commitment to restoring communities,” he explained.

Why Digital Awareness Is Now A Must For Every Internet User.

Published

on

Most people don’t wake up thinking about digital awareness. They wake up to notifications, missed calls, bank alerts, social media updates, school messages, and work emails. The internet isn’t a separate space anymore—it’s embedded in daily life, shaping how we shop, communicate, pay bills, learn, and spend time.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This is why digital awareness is essential—not to turn everyone into a cybersecurity expert, but because ordinary online activities now carry real risks. A careless click, weak password, fake page, or unsecured network can compromise money, accounts, and trust.

Convenience Without Understanding

Digital tools are easier than ever. Users can pay bills, open accounts, order groceries, and join calls without understanding how systems work behind the scenes. But convenience comes with a cost: people do more online while understanding less about potential dangers.

Digital awareness helps users spot differences between:

  • Real and fake login pages

  • Legitimate and scam messages

  • Trusted and risky networks

  • Safe and unnecessary app permissions

Ignoring these differences can have fast, serious consequences.

Sensitive Activities Are Routine

Daily online routines now include checking salaries, logging into school portals, entering card details, saving addresses, uploading documents, and chatting with support. This familiarity can create a false sense of security—just because something feels normal doesn’t mean it’s safe.

Some users take extra precautions, like using VPNs on public Wi-Fi, but technology aids are no substitute for careful judgment.

Scams Are Harder to Spot

Scams are no longer obvious. They often appear as delivery alerts, bank verification messages, job offers, discounts, social media warnings, or utility notices. The danger grows when users feel rushed. Pausing to ask:

  • Who sent this?

  • Why the urgency?

  • Is this link genuine?

  • Can I verify it elsewhere?
    …can prevent serious harm.

Weak Passwords Remain Common

Password reuse is still a major risk. Using the same login across multiple accounts is convenient until one platform is breached, giving attackers access to everything. Basic precautions include:

  • Unique passwords for key accounts

  • Strong email passwords

  • Multi-factor authentication

  • Avoiding casual sharing of login info

Different Users, Different Blind Spots

Digital awareness isn’t one-size-fits-all. Teenagers may know social media but not privacy risks; older adults may manage money carefully but trust fake calls; busy parents may know the risks but skip updates.

Practical habits everyone can maintain include:

  • Verifying before clicking

  • Updating devices regularly

  • Reviewing app permissions

  • Avoiding sensitive data on unknown networks

  • Treating urgent messages with skepticism

Awareness Protects More Than Money

Online risks aren’t just financial—they’re personal. Compromised accounts can lead to lost photos, messages, work files, and private conversations. Digital awareness builds confidence, not fear, helping users navigate online life safely and independently.

The Key Skill Is Judgment

Speed online isn’t the most valuable skill—judgment is. Knowing when not to click, recognizing insecure networks, and balancing convenience with caution are what keep users safe.

Why Awareness Matters More Every Day

Daily life is increasingly digital: payments, government services, education, shopping, transport, healthcare, and communication all rely on the internet. Digital awareness is becoming a core part of modern literacy. Users don’t need to master technology—they need the awareness to protect their money, identity, time, and peace of mind.

In short, digital awareness isn’t just protection—it’s confidence in a world where being online is no longer optional, but the default.

Initial reports had indicated a crash and ongoing rescue operations, but the military has now confirmed that all aboard perished.

This incident marks the fourth US aircraft lost since the United States and Israel began strikes against Iran on February 28. Earlier this month, Kuwait air defences accidentally shot down three US Air Force fighter jets in a friendly fire incident, though all crew members ejected safely.

The KC‑135 is a key aerial refuelling tanker, essential for extending the range of fighter jets and other military aircraft during operations. The loss of the plane and its six crew members is a significant setback to US military capabilities in the region.
