Tinubu Orders Total Onslaught: New Security Blueprint Targets Bandits And Terror Cells.
President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his determination to dismantle banditry, terror cells, and other security threats undermining Nigeria’s stability, the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, disclosed at a regional security summit in Kaduna on Saturday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, the minister noted that the president had issued decisive instructions to the defence establishment to build a more responsive and adaptive national security framework capable of neutralising organised criminal networks across the country. He explained that coordinated joint military operations currently underway across the North-West—covering Kaduna, Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kebbi States—had opened up previously dangerous road corridors and restored civilian movement.
Badaru highlighted the reopening of the Kaduna–Kachia and Kaduna–Birnin Gwari routes, along with marked improvements on the Jibia–Gurbin Baure axis and sections of the Sokoto–Illela corridor. He added that these advances had stimulated renewed commercial activity in key trading communities such as Kaura Namoda, Shinkafi, Batsari, Giwa, and Kajuru, which now record significantly higher daily traffic as confidence gradually returns.
The chair of the summit’s organising committee, Hussaini Babangida, explained that the gathering provided a crucial platform for stakeholders to examine the expanding impact of insecurity and map out actionable steps toward peace and recovery. He also revealed that a broader national security summit has been slated for Abuja on December 1 to consolidate nationwide perspectives into a unified security enhancement plan.
However, Professor Muhammad Isa of Ahmadu Bello University, a public administration expert, cautioned that despite visible tactical gains, long-term peace remains elusive due to persistent structural failures within the security system. He argued that operational fragmentation, weak inter-agency synergy, overstretched institutions, and inconsistent policy direction continue to undermine progress.
Isa stressed that unless the structural drivers of violence are addressed, battlefield successes will remain short-lived. He called for a unified regional defence strategy to restrict the movement of armed groups, dismantle entrenched bandit enclaves, and effectively respond to the humanitarian challenges triggered by prolonged conflict.
The summit drew policymakers, traditional leaders, civil society representatives, academics, and crisis-recovery experts as part of ongoing internal consultations between the presidency and defence agencies. Babangida added that recommendations gathered during the December 1 forum would be compiled and forwarded to the Federal Government for policy consideration.
