Purposeful Leadership And Reform Urged For Nigeria’s New Top Civil Servants.

Delivering the keynote address at a two-day induction programme in Abuja, Mrs. Walson-Jack highlighted that the new appointees assume office at a critical juncture, entrusted with the strategic task of steering government operations to achieve national objectives.
She congratulated the five newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, describing their selection as a recognition of merit, competence, and years of dedicated service. The appointees are set to oversee key Service-wide Offices integral to effective governance coordination.
Mrs. Walson-Jack emphasized the urgent need for a fully paperless Federal Civil Service, describing digitalisation as the foundation of transparency and modern governance. She urged the Permanent Secretaries to lead this transition decisively and by example.
“You are custodians of institutional memory, architects of system stability, catalysts of reform, and guardians of ethical public service values,” she declared. She further called on them to uphold the highest ethical standards, champion digital transformation, and deliver outcomes that positively impact citizens’ lives.
Earlier, the former Permanent Secretary of the Career Management Office, Mrs. Fatima Mahmood, welcomed the appointees, stressing the Service’s reliance on their leadership to drive digitalisation and embed lasting reforms. She noted that the induction programme marked a pivotal leadership transition and the formal beginning of a critical phase in their public service careers, requiring clarity, courage, discipline, and commitment to the ideals of the Federal Civil Service.
The new Permanent Secretaries are Alhaji Abdulkarim Ozi Ibrahim, Dr. John Chidiebere Ezeamama, Dr. Abdul Sule Usman Garba, Dr. Ishiyaku Musa Mohammed, and Dr. Ukaire Binyerem Chigbowu.
The intensive programme included sessions with policy experts and experienced administrators, equipping the new Permanent Secretaries with practical tools, strategic frameworks, and insights essential for excelling as leaders of policy formulation and drivers of national reform initiatives.
