cooking Gas Price Soars Again As Nigerians Now Pay ₦1,180 Per Kg.
According to Nivo News, the cost of refilling cooking gas in Nigeria has surged to ₦1,180 per kilogram, tightening pressure on households already battling rising living expenses. Checks across various retail outlets nationwide indicate that consumers are now paying almost twice the amount they spent around the same period last year, a spike dealers attribute to inflation, foreign exchange instability, and growing logistics challenges.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Current market findings show the following average retail prices: 1kg at ₦1,180, 3kg at ₦3,540, 5kg at ₦5,900, 10kg at ₦11,800, 12kg at ₦14,160, and 12.5kg at ₦14,750. Industry analysts note that the rising cost of Liquefied Petroleum Gas is driven by a combination of factors. Nigeria still relies heavily on imported LPG, making local prices highly sensitive to fluctuations in the international market. The volatility of the naira has also pushed up landing costs for importers, while limited access to foreign exchange continues to hinder supply volumes.
Transportation also plays a major role, as most distribution trucks run on diesel and cover long distances from coastal depots to inland markets. Persistent poor road conditions further complicate deliveries, adding hidden logistics costs. Retail prices also reflect multiple levies including union dues, depot charges, safety compliance fees, and state-related loading costs.
Operators add that inadequate storage infrastructure requires more frequent trips to depots, driving expenses up. Seasonal spikes—particularly during the Ember months, festive celebrations, and dry-season events—tend to elevate demand and price pressure. Insecurity in some regions means suppliers must factor in risk allowances, while inflation continues to increase the cost of maintaining cylinders, paying staff salaries, renting outlets, and adhering to safety requirements.
Despite these challenges, some areas with better access to supply sources occasionally offer slightly reduced rates due to competitive advantage among local retailers.
