The Catholic Bishop of Kontagora, Bulus Yohanna, confirmed on Friday, November 28, that 12 teachers and 253 students are still unaccounted for, based on verified records from the Kontagora Diocese. The Bishop revealed that the initial headcount following the raid recorded 315 missing, but some of the hostages escaped and later reconnected with their families, reducing the current tally to 265.

Bishop Yohanna said the verified list of missing teachers and pupils has been formally submitted to Niger State Governor Umar Bago to facilitate state-level rescue efforts. He also revealed that the shock of the abduction has tragically claimed the lives of two parents. The gunmen reportedly seized over 300 children and staff, including pupils as young as nursery age.

As chairman of the Niger State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Yohanna called for the immediate deployment of security agents to schools and other community institutions across Niger State. He urged the Federal Government to strengthen proactive protection for vulnerable rural schools. “Forwarded names for action, not politics,” he emphasized.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered a nationwide security operation to locate and rescue the abducted individuals. He reaffirmed that Nigeria’s territory will not be ceded to terrorists and directed national security agencies to immediately disrupt the perpetrators’ networks and secure the release of all captives.

The abduction in Papiri forms part of a disturbing pattern of attacks across the country. Earlier this week, 25 schoolgirls were kidnapped from another institution, while 38 worshippers were seized from churches in Kebbi and Kwara States, prompting the President to declare national security a top emergency priority.

The match began with an immediate impact from Arsenal, as Kai Havertz capitalized on a pass from Leandro Trossard to put the London club ahead within the first six minutes. Arsenal maintained their lead for much of the first half, successfully frustrating the French champions.

The momentum shifted in the 63rd minute when a VAR review resulted in a penalty for PSG. Ousmane Dembélé stepped up to the spot and converted two minutes later, bringing the score level at 1-1. Despite intense efforts from both sides during the remainder of regulation and throughout extra time, neither team could find a winning goal.

The title was ultimately decided by penalties. In the shootout, PSG held their nerve, with Lucas Beraldo converting their final spot-kick. With Arsenal needing to score to force sudden death, defender Gabriel Magalhães sent his effort over the bar, sealing a 4-3 victory for the French side.

This triumph marks a historic achievement for PSG, who become the first French club to win the UEFA Champions League title in two consecutive seasons, having defeated Inter Milan 5-0 in the 2025 final. The victory also places head coach Luis Enrique among an elite group of managers to have secured at least three European Cup titles.
