Massive Shake-Up: Nigerian Army Elevates 105 Senior Officers To Generals.

The Nigerian Army Council has endorsed the promotion of 105 senior officers to the ranks of Major General and Brigadier General in a sweeping elevation aimed at strengthening the nation’s defence leadership.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Nivo News, the latest promotion list includes 28 Brigadier Generals elevated to Major General and 77 Colonels promoted to Brigadier General. The announcement was issued on Friday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, who confirmed that the approval was granted during the Army Council meeting held on Thursday, 27 November 2025.

Anele disclosed that several top officers serving in key intelligence, operational, training and administrative roles were among those upgraded to the rank of Major General. They include Brigadier General O. Adegbe of the Defence Intelligence Agency; Brigadier General S.M. Uba, Director of Defence Information; Brigadier General R.E. Hedima, Acting Chief of Military Intelligence (Army); and Brigadier General R.T. Utsaha, Deputy Director of Defence Operations.

Others elevated to Major General are Brigadier General A.M. Umar, Commandant of the Warrant Officer Academy; Brigadier General S. Sulaiman, Deputy Military Secretary (Army); Brigadier General I.O. Bassey, Director of the Nigerian Army Operations Centre; and Brigadier General C.A. Ekeator from the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.

The list also features Brigadier General S.Y. Yakasai, Acting Director of Procurement in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff; Brigadier General W.L. Nzidee of the Army Logistics Department; Brigadier General S.A. Emmanuel of the Nigerian Army Signals; Brigadier General S.S. Tilawan, Acting Commander of Sector 3 Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI; Brigadier General M.O. Agi, Desk Officer at TETFund in the Nigerian Defence Academy; and Brigadier General I.M. Abbas, Commander of 34 Brigade. Brigadier General Z.A. Saidu was promoted posthumously.

Anele also listed the officers elevated from Colonel to Brigadier General, including Colonels Y. Ibrahim of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, N.N. Gambo of the Civil-Military Affairs Department, and A. Saidu of the Nigerian Army Finance Corps. Numerous others serving in medical, operational, training, logistics and garrison roles across various formations also featured on the extensive list.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to justify their elevation through enhanced professionalism and commitment to national security. He encouraged them to lead by example, inspire their subordinates, and embrace innovative strategies capable of tackling emerging security challenges.

Shaibu further stressed the importance of upholding their oath of allegiance, noting that their loyalty to the Constitution and the defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity must remain steadfast and uncompromised.

The dispute involves three individuals — Tony Alile, Kennedy Odion, and Deacon Nosa Ehima — all laying claim to the position of state chairman.

Alile, who emerged from the party’s state congress, said efforts have been intensified to activate internal conflict resolution mechanisms to settle grievances and promote unity ahead of future elections.

Alile also noted that the growing influx of members reflects public dissatisfaction with existing political structures, insisting that ADC is positioning itself as a credible alternative.
