“If My Son Turns Terrorist, Arrest Him — Lawmaker Issues Stark Warning Amid Nationwide Insecurity”.
According to reports, Senator Sani Musa, representing Niger East Senatorial District, has called for the immediate arrest of anyone involved in terrorism, emphasizing that no title, position, or family connection should exempt suspects from prosecution.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during Senate plenary, Musa linked his demand to the escalating insecurity across the nation, noting that what began as localized criminal activity has now spread nationwide. He warned that no state is immune to the rising menace.
“If my brother, my son, or any relative is involved in terrorism, they should be arrested. The law must take its course,” Musa stated firmly, reiterating that familial ties should never shield criminals from justice.
The senator also criticized the prevailing practice of criminals being apprehended yet released without consequences, despite being armed or confronted by security forces. “They were arrested with AK-47s and released with AK-47s. No gunshots, no arrests, nothing. Then tomorrow, we face another banditry incident. Why should it end like that?” he questioned.
Recent debates in the Senate have focused on the surge in mass kidnappings, particularly high-profile school abductions in Kebbi and Niger states, and the perceived lack of follow-through on arrests. Musa directed his remarks to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, stressing that national security is a top leadership responsibility.
“Mr. President, it is on you to confront this issue head-on, without fear or favor. We will stand by you,” he said, emphasizing that the lives of citizens should not be politicized and pledging institutional support if oversight translates into action.
Musa further highlighted that terrorism and kidnapping have become pervasive, extending from the Zaria-Sokoto highway to forested routes in Kwara, Kebbi, and Niger, where criminals continue to act with increasing boldness.
“We must own our responsibilities and act decisively. Politics should not interfere with the safety of our country,” he reiterated.
