Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress and ex-governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has strongly condemned the recent bandit attacks in Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas, which resulted in three fatalities and the abduction of several women and children.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to a statement released on Wednesday by his former Chief of Staff and ex-Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, Ganduje described the attacks as “tragic, painful, and deeply distressing,” warning that the violent incidents threaten communal peace and social stability. He expressed condolences to the bereaved families and called for urgent, coordinated interventions from all stakeholders.

Ganduje urged the Kano State Government to implement proactive, intelligence-driven, and community-based security measures, emphasizing that the situation is escalating to alarming levels. He recommended that authorities draw on security models from his administration (2015–2023), including strengthened vigilance groups, community policing, intelligence sharing, close collaboration with security agencies, and development-focused crime prevention strategies. According to Ganduje, these approaches helped curb rural banditry and maintain relative stability during his tenure.

He also commended the governments of Niger, Kwara, and Kebbi states for their effective management of similar security challenges, noting the importance of swift interventions and strong community engagement. Additionally, Ganduje praised President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to modernize the armed forces and enhance national security, describing these initiatives as a demonstration of “strong political will and clear determination to secure the country.”

Ganduje appealed to residents of the affected areas to remain calm yet vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information. He emphasized that addressing insecurity requires collective responsibility and synergy among citizens, traditional institutions, government authorities, and security agencies.

In Ekiti State, Commissioner of Police Joseph Eribo confirmed that security has been intensified across the state, particularly around borders, schools, places of worship, and other vulnerable locations. This measure followed a viral video in which a man allegedly threatened attacks on Ekiti State University and Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere Ekiti. Investigations by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, revealed that the video was AI-generated and aimed at causing panic. Residents were urged to ignore the fabricated claims, remain law-abiding, and report suspicious activities promptly.

Campus authorities at EKSU also reassured students and staff of their safety, confirming that security agencies and the university’s security team are on high alert. Similarly, the Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Alabi, dismissed reports of a bandit incursion in his community, noting that local security agents and vigilantes remain fully operational. Residents were advised to continue their activities without fear.
