Professor Abdulrasheed Nallah, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, has urged the Nigerian government to convene a national dialogue to address the country’s growing insecurity. Prof. Nallah, who also led Kwara State University, Malete, for two terms, made the remarks during a public lecture held in Ilorin on Thursday, at the launch of a book on the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammed Bashir Imam Solih, authored by Abdulazeez Arowona.

He stressed the importance of tolerance and unity, declaring, “The day Nigerians collectively say enough is enough, these issues can be addressed. We must see ourselves as brothers and sisters, end hatred, share our resources, and become responsible for one another.”

Highlighting the need for national cohesion, Prof. Nallah said citizens of all ethnicities should not be held accountable for historical grievances. “Forging unity requires dialogue among Nigerians,” he added.

He further advised that Nigerians should take ownership of their challenges, rather than rely on foreign intervention, warning against external actors who may exploit the nation’s resources under the guise of religious or humanitarian motives.

Prof. Nallah also recommended that the government conduct a census to document citizens living in remote areas, integrating them into the national framework while simultaneously combating criminal elements.

The former Vice-Chancellor praised Ilorin’s community structures for promoting religious harmony and civic responsibility, noting that the city demonstrates exceptional tolerance and acceptance of diverse populations, particularly the “peoples of the book.”

  • Leadership Dispute: Abure criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for listing the group led by Senator Nenadi Usman on its official website, labeling Usman as an “interloper” who unlawfully seized his office.

  • Internal Conflict: Maintaining his stance from two weeks prior, Abure blamed Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti for fueling the party’s leadership crisis by backing the caretaker committee formed in Umuahia, which he claims destabilized a previously peaceful administration.

  • A Federal High Court in Lokoja, presided over by Justice Isah Dashen, voided a previous judgment that had mandated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC.

  • The court determined that the prior verdict, issued on December 10, 2025, was constitutionally defective because it was made without hearing from all necessary parties.

  • Enekweizu reassured party members and supporters that they have “nothing to fear,” asserting that the NDC will obtain the necessary codes, upload their candidates, and participate in the 2027 elections.
