Presidency Accuses Niger CAN Chairman Of Sabotaging Rescue Of Abducted Students.
The Nigerian Presidency has criticized the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State, Bulus Yohanna, over his handling of the abduction of students from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, speaking on Arise TV’s Prime Time, alleged that Yohanna was withholding crucial information regarding the incident, thereby obstructing authorities’ efforts to determine the exact number of students affected.
Onanuga dismissed claims by Yohanna that 51 students had been rescued, asserting that those students were never abducted. “When the bandits came in the night, the students were running helter-skelter and some merely returned to their homes,” he said.
The presidential aide further stated that the government remains uncertain about the actual number of missing students due to the lack of cooperation from school and religious authorities. “The Niger State Governor requested the list of missing students. Up till now, I don’t know what kind of game the CAN chairman in Niger is playing. They are not collaborating with the government. Even the security personnel are unaware of why the names have not been released,” Onanuga explained.
He also alleged that Rev. Yohanna instructed the school principal not to communicate with security operatives, complicating ongoing rescue operations. “The CAN chairman of Niger actually told the principal not to talk to security people,” Onanuga added.
