Audio Evidence Shows Tukur Mamu in Direct Talks With Boko Haram Commanders.
According to Nivo News, the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday was presented with explosive revelations regarding Tukur Mohammed Mamu, alleged to have acted as a negotiator for terrorist activities. The court heard that a terror commander reportedly offered Mamu ₦50 million in appreciation of his role in ransom negotiations.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
A Department of State Services (DSS) officer, testifying as the sixth prosecution witness, explained that audio recordings extracted from Mamu’s electronic devices captured conversations with senior members of a terrorist organization. “The second voice recording, which lasted five minutes, belongs to Shugaba, the leader of the terrorist group, who commended Mamu’s efforts and instructed him to take ₦50 million for personal use from a ransom sum,” the witness stated.
The recordings, along with others allegedly involving Boko Haram operatives, were recovered from Mamu’s Samsung tablet and phones following his arrest and repatriation from Egypt. Mamu was apprehended on September 7, 2022, at Cairo International Airport on suspicion of financing terrorism.
The witness further disclosed that Mamu immediately contacted his in-law, Mubarak Tinja, instructing him to move cash, vehicles, and valuables from his Kaduna residence to prevent seizure by authorities. Subsequent DSS searches allegedly uncovered $300,000, seven vehicles including a Toyota Camry Muscle, Peugeot 5008, Lexus, and Mercedes E350, as well as other valuables and local currency.
The witness confirmed that Mamu admitted communicating with terrorists and issuing voice notes to them. Investigators also recovered a pump-action gun from Mamu’s home, which he claimed was licensed; however, the licence had expired in December 2021.
Court proceedings revealed that the voice recordings included requests from terrorists for assistance with speakers for preaching and guidance on building a website. Most of the recordings were in Hausa and were translated for the investigation.
Two alleged kidnap victims provided written statements to DSS investigators but did not appear in court due to fear and trauma. The statements, one in English and another translated from Hausa, were admitted as evidence, alongside vehicle documents and compact discs containing the recorded conversations.
Prosecuting counsel, David Kaswe, informed the court of plans to file a formal application for a site inspection of DSS facilities where the recovered items are stored. The case is set to continue at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
