Rivers Govt Cracks Down On Ghost Workers With Fresh Statewide Biometric Audit.
According to Nivo News, the Rivers State Government has launched a fresh round of biometric verification for workers across all 23 local government areas, following the exit of former State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.). The renewed audit comes months after Ibas conducted a similar exercise targeting civil servants and local government staff, which he claimed saved the state over ₦5 billion by identifying ghost workers.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Uncertainty lingered over whether the audit at the local government tier was fully concluded before Ibas left office on September 18, 2025, shortly after the federal government lifted the emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu.
The latest verification began in Emuoha Local Government Area, led by the Chairman of the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission, Israel Amadi. He explained that the exercise is aimed at eliminating ghost workers and ensuring accurate, credible staffing data across the 23 LGAs.
Before the formal rollout, Amadi and Emuoha Council Chairman, Dr. Chidi Lloyd, inspected various completed and ongoing projects within the local government secretariat. Amadi applauded Lloyd’s developmental initiatives, describing them as clear evidence of transparent and accountable governance.
He noted that similar strides had been observed in other LGAs, saying the reforms were necessary despite the resistance they may attract from individuals benefiting from irregular practices. Amadi stressed that the commission would not allow illegal staff placements from other agencies into LGA payrolls, warning that workers engaging in truancy or holding multiple government jobs would be sanctioned.
He reiterated the need for due process, urging council officials to remain committed to reforms even when criticised. Dr. Lloyd assured that adequate security arrangements had been put in place to protect officials and staff involved in the verification. He emphasised that the exercise was not aimed at witch-hunting anyone but was introduced to enhance orderliness, transparency, and sound administration within the local government system.
Lloyd added that all genuinely employed workers would be given the opportunity to present their documents, stressing that the initiative is intended to cleanse the payroll and restore integrity to the staffing structure.

-
Stadium Expansion & Cost-Cutting: The club invested £63.5 million on land adjacent to Old Trafford as part of ambitions to build a new 100,000-capacity stadium, while co-owner Jim Ratcliffe has continued implementing strict cost-cutting initiatives and job reductions.
-
Future Outlook: Chief Executive Omar Berrada expressed confidence in the club’s trajectory and financial discipline, with the club projecting revenues between £740 million and £760 million for the current financial year.
Despite the positive financial outlook and a return to Champions League football under manager Michael Carrick, the team has faced a rocky start to the new Premier League campaign, picking up five points from their first five matches and exiting the English League Cup.
