No Fireworks This Christmas – Imo and Plateau Police Enforce Strict Ban.

The directives, effective immediately, aim to prevent accidents, fires, injuries, and public disturbances during the festive period. The Imo State Police Command reiterated the ban in a statement on , emphasizing that anyone found selling, possessing, or using fireworks will face arrest and prosecution. The statement, issued by Police Public Relations Officer DSP Okoye Henry, noted that regular patrols and targeted operations would be intensified to ensure compliance. Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, called on residents to support law enforcement by reporting illegal activities and assured the public that enhanced security measures are in place for a “safe and peaceful Yuletide.”
Similarly, the Plateau State Police Command imposed a statewide ban, highlighting concerns over public safety and security. According to spokesperson SP Alfred Alabo, the use of knockouts and fireworks often sparks unnecessary fear and public panic. Violators, whether sellers or users, will be arrested and prosecuted. Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, urged parents, guardians, and religious leaders to caution children and congregants against defying the order, stressing that community cooperation is essential for maintaining a “peaceful and safe environment” during the festivities.
Both police commands affirmed their commitment to ensuring public safety and security throughout the holiday season.
