According to Nivo News, Makinde spoke on Saturday in Lagos during Chief George’s 80th birthday celebration, an event that attracted prominent political leaders, traditional rulers and other dignitaries from across the country.

Reflecting on his early political journey, Makinde recounted how Chief George offered unwavering support in 2014 when he first declared interest in contesting for the Oyo governorship. He explained that despite significant internal opposition within the party, George intervened at a critical moment to ensure he secured a military venue for his public declaration after earlier approval had been withdrawn under pressure.

Makinde noted that the intervention marked a defining moment in his political trajectory, expressing profound appreciation to the Peoples Democratic Party stalwart for standing by him when others attempted to undermine his ambition. He praised George’s resilience and longstanding relevance, saying the former military governor has weathered challenging political storms yet remains influential across the country.

The governor encouraged attendees to learn from George’s life of perseverance, adding that his story illustrates that while the journey may be turbulent, divine guidance guarantees safe arrival. The celebration was graced by notable figures, including Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

Makinde highlighted George’s strength shaped by years of military experience, stating that anyone who had risen to the rank of General could never be dismissed lightly. He recalled how certain party members sought to block his public declaration in 2014 by pushing for the withdrawal of the earlier approval granted to use the Polo Ground in Ibadan. He said he turned to Chief George for help, and through his intervention, the approval was restored on the eve of the event.

Makinde emphasized that the support he received that day became the foundation of the political journey that eventually led him to the governorship. He publicly thanked George again, wishing him a joyous 80th birthday and continued good health.

He added that George’s life, marked by rough seas and difficult passages, demonstrates that although challenges are inevitable, God’s promise of safe arrival remains constant. Makinde prayed that everyone would reach their destined goals safely, celebrating Chief George for embodying this truth.

The Federal Workers Forum has issued a notice of potential indefinite national industrial action, citing escalating insecurity and a failure to resolve critical wage grievances. The following summary details the forum’s position:....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

    • Leadership Critique: The forum, represented by National Coordinator Mr. Emelieze and Secretary Mr. Ayo Ogundele, has criticized the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for failing to provide adequate leadership regarding these worker concerns.

    • Wage Implementation Issues: The group reports that an online poll of members strongly supports a strike. They allege the July 2024 minimum wage adjustment provided only a taxable ₦40,000 uniform increase, which they claim delivered no meaningful benefit.

    • Broken Promises: Workers claim that a 40% peculiar allowance promised by the Head of the Civil Service, Didi Walson-Jack, for May 1, 2026, was subsequently rejected by the Office of the Accountant-General. Furthermore, they report that May 2026 salaries did not include the wage awards promised by the Minister of Finance, and consequential adjustments remain unpaid.

    • Outstanding Entitlements: The forum highlighted long-standing arrears, including two months of wage awards from July 2024, unpaid promotion arrears, and outstanding Duty Tour Allowance claims.

    • Rejection of Proposals: The group has rejected a ₦100,000 minimum wage proposal backed by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, labeling it a “Greek gift” aimed at suppressing earnings, and instead is demanding a living wage and a cost-of-living allowance.

    • Insecurity Concerns: Beyond economic issues, the forum expressed alarm over the rise in kidnappings and violent attacks, specifically citing recent incidents in Oyo and Borno states.

    • Government Demands: The forum has urged the NLC and TUC to engage the government on these hardships and has called on the government to secure the release of all hostages, including teachers and schoolchildren. Additionally, the group suggested that the National Assembly consider legislation regarding civilian firearm ownership and that a sovereign national conference be convened to address the nation’s challenges.

  • Zoning Policy: LP National Publicity Secretary, Asogwa, maintained that the decision to zone the presidency to the South was not a recent or secret development.

  • Constitutional Ratification: The policy was formally adopted and ratified on April 28, 2026, during the party’s national convention, which serves as the LP’s highest decision-making authority.

  • Binding Resolutions: These convention resolutions are binding on all stakeholders, meaning no aspirants are exempt from the established zoning framework.

  • Aspirant Risk: Asogwa argued that Agada undertook a personal political risk by purchasing forms and campaigning while the zoning arrangement was already public knowledge.

  • Dismissal of Claims: The party dismissed Agada’s additional claims of spending over ₦300 million as irrelevant to the constitutional enforcement of party rules.

  • Institutional Integrity: The LP asserted that the disqualification was a necessary measure to maintain internal cohesion and balance, rather than an act of vindictiveness against a specific individual.
