COAS Shaibu Visits Wounded Soldiers In Kaduna, Pledges Full Medical Support.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Friday visited soldiers wounded in action who are receiving treatment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna. During the visit, the COAS commended the injured personnel for their bravery and dedication, assuring them of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to providing comprehensive medical care and support for a full recovery. Drawing from personal experience, Shaibu recalled his own hospitalization at the facility following injuries sustained in action, emphasizing his understanding of the challenges faced by wounded soldiers.

He expressed confidence in the hospital’s management and medical standards, urging the troops to follow prescribed treatment plans while reiterating his commitment to enhancing the welfare of personnel and their families. Shaibu, accompanied by principal staff officers from Army Headquarters, also toured the hospital’s facilities to assess ongoing improvements before proceeding to Headquarters Sub-Sector 4 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA along the Kaduna–Abuja Highway. There, he interacted with troops to evaluate their operational readiness and morale.

In a post shared on his official X account on Monday, Shehu reacted to reports suggesting that only a small fraction of the Nigerian Army’s 2025 budget for security equipment has been released.

He stated that although over ₦20 billion was approved for the procurement of security equipment, only about ₦1.7 billion—roughly 7 percent—has reportedly been disbursed so far.

Shehu questioned the possible impact of the funding gap on troop safety, suggesting it could be linked to growing battlefield casualties.
