Bash Ali Stuns Boxing World With Comeback After 21 Years, Promises One-Round KO.
After more than 21 years away from the professional boxing scene, former world cruiserweight champion Bash Ali is set to make a highly anticipated return tonight in Lagos. The 69-year-old pugilist will face Prince Bob Alagoro in the headline bout of the “Legendary Ring Return” event at Shalom Park & Events Centre, located opposite the General Hospital in Igando.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on his comeback, Ali exuded confidence, vowing a decisive finish. “The fight is not going to go over one round, which is three minutes. If it goes over one round, then I will retire from boxing and never fight again,” he stated. Ali also dismissed concerns about Alagoro posing a threat, recalling a past sparring session he claims gave his opponent a false sense of confidence. “He thinks he can beat me because we sparred several years ago and I let him win, but he is too old to share a ring with me,” Ali said.
The event will feature a lineup of notable local fighters, including Idris Hamza, Segun War Adeyemi, Williams Kaki Fire Amosu, Sodiq Golden Boy Oyakojo, Kabiru Ashiru, Ekenne Richard Usoni, Ibrahim Olajibu, and Don King Essien. Key matchups include the national middleweight challenge between Idris Hamza and Lawal Faruk, Opeyemi Ibraheem versus Akeem Muri in the bantamweight division, and Lucky Oyinbu facing Sahid Sodiq in a lightweight contest.
Brigadier-General Idowu Akinlawon (rtd), CEO of New Era Boxing Promotions, described the main event as the highlight fans have eagerly awaited. “The Bash Ali and Prince Bob Alagoro matchup will be the icing on the cake of a night boxing fans across Nigeria and beyond have been looking forward to,” he said.
The Nigerian Boxing Board of Control has given its approval for the event, with Secretary General Olu Aboderin emphasizing the show’s role in promoting professionalism and growth in the sport. Ali’s return follows a similar comeback by Nigerian heavyweight legend Ike “The President” Ibeabuchi in August, who stopped Idris Afinni in the third round at age 52.
