West Africa Dreams Big: Ghana, Nigeria, Ivory Coast Eye Joint World Cup Hosting.

Published

Ghana has indicated its interest in co-hosting a future FIFA World Cup alongside Nigeria and the Ivory Coast, signaling West Africa’s ambition to make a bold mark on football’s global stage.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, revealed the country’s willingness to consider a joint bid, noting that FIFA’s current approach increasingly accommodates multi-nation hosting.

“They are beginning to adapt to several nations hosting together, so perhaps the next World Cup could be Ghana, Nigeria, and Ivory Coast coming together, and it would be a positive step,” Adams stated.

His comments come amid a rising trend of shared hosting rights in global football. The 2026 World Cup will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, while the 2030 edition is set for Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, with additional matches in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay to mark the tournament’s centenary. Saudi Arabia has already secured the 2034 event, leaving the 2038 World Cup as the next opportunity for new hosts.

Ghana recently demonstrated its capacity to manage a large multi-sport event through the delayed 2023 African Games, while Nigeria has experience hosting the Africa Cup of Nations and several FIFA youth tournaments. Nevertheless, challenges remain, as Nigeria’s unsuccessful bid for the 2030 Commonwealth Games highlighted weaknesses in stadium readiness, transport, funding, and overall organizational capacity—areas that would require substantial upgrades for a World Cup bid.

Despite these hurdles, Adams remains optimistic about the potential for a joint West African bid, citing the shared experience and infrastructure of the three nations.

“I believe that together with Nigeria and Ivory Coast, who have invested significantly in hosting AFCON recently, we can present a strong case for the World Cup,” he said.

The State Wing Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has ordered all public primary and secondary school teachers in Abuja to commence an indefinite strike from Monday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The union also directed parents and guardians to keep their children at home until further notice, citing unresolved welfare concerns and what it described as government inaction.

This followed a communiqué issued after an emergency SWEC meeting held in Gwagwalada, Abuja, over the weekend and signed by the state leadership of the union.

Teachers were instructed to fully comply with the strike directive and await further instructions from the union leadership, as the industrial action remains in force until their demands are addressed.

According to the communiqué, the strike became necessary after the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum earlier issued to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, which elapsed without a satisfactory response.

The union recalled that although previous interventions led to the suspension of an earlier strike, several key issues affecting teachers’ welfare were still unresolved.

It also expressed concern that a committee set up to address outstanding entitlements submitted its report in August 2025, but the findings have not been made public or implemented.

While acknowledging the payment of the new minimum wage and some salary arrears, the union insisted that major concerns remain unattended.

The NUT further demanded reforms in promotion processes and a review of the 2024 promotion exercise.

After what it described as unsuccessful engagements and expired deadlines, the union declared that all teachers in the FCT will remain on strike indefinitely until their demands are met.
