The confrontation, which erupted during boarding at the Asaba International Airport, caused panic among passengers and reignited concerns about passenger conduct and aviation safety across the country. According to Nivo News, the airline confirmed on Thursday that it had reviewed and accepted the apologies shared by both men on their social media pages.

In its statement, the airline said it recognises their commitments to refrain from any behaviour that could jeopardise safety, order, or decorum aboard flights. It expressed confidence that the duo would uphold their promises in the interest of safeguarding the travel experience of all passengers.

United Nigeria Airlines also reaffirmed its collaboration with the Airline Operators of Nigeria and regulatory bodies to address rising cases of unruly conduct within the aviation sector. Viral videos from the incident showed both men trading blows inside the aircraft cabin, prompting crew members to intervene as alarmed passengers looked on. The airline later confirmed that both individuals were deboarded and handed over to security officials at the airport.

According to Nivo News, the clash was reportedly fueled by an online feud dating back to 2024, during which VeryDarkMan had publicly vowed to confront Mr Jollof whenever they met. In a remorse-filled video posted on Tuesday, a visibly injured VeryDarkMan apologised to passengers and airline staff, admitting he acted irresponsibly and pledging to ensure such an incident never happens again in public spaces.

He further apologised to travellers whose important engagements were disrupted, including those with medical emergencies or urgent appointments, while expressing regret to all adults and younger passengers who witnessed the chaos.

Mr Jollof, in his own apology issued on Instagram, insisted he acted in self-defence and maintained that he is not a violent individual. While apologising to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, the airline, and affected passengers, he admitted biting VeryDarkMan during the scuffle, claiming it was necessary to protect himself. He also extended apologies to his family, promising to avoid such incidents going forward.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, through its Acting Director of Public Affairs, Michael Achimugu, condemned the altercation, describing it as a severe breach that endangers lives. He warned that unruly behaviour inside aircraft cabins could lead to criminal charges and possible imprisonment, stressing that regulations strictly prohibit violence or conduct capable of threatening crew or passengers.

United Nigeria Airlines urged travellers to support flight crew and security personnel in maintaining safety protocols, reaffirming its commitment to providing a secure and orderly travel environment while preventing future occurrences of such incidents.

Abure Heads To Supreme Court Over Labour Party Crisis.

Published

on

The leadership crisis within the Labour Party has escalated as Julius Abure rejected the recent ruling of the Court of Appeal and announced plans to challenge it at the Supreme Court of Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

News reports that the Court of Appeal in Abuja dismissed Abure’s case and upheld an earlier judgment removing him as the party’s national chairman. The court also affirmed recognition of Nenadi Usman as the legitimate leader of the party.

The dispute traces back to a Federal High Court ruling, which relied on a Supreme Court decision that nullified the process that brought Abure into office. The courts maintained that his tenure had ended and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise Usman’s leadership.

However, Abure rejected the judgment, insisting that the 2024 party convention that produced him remains valid and supports his claim to leadership.

He has now instructed his legal team to approach the Supreme Court in a bid to overturn the Appeal Court’s decision.

Abure described the ruling as unacceptable to him and his supporters, arguing that it contradicted established legal principles and internal party autonomy.

He maintained that the Labour Party’s 27 March 2024 convention in Nnewi remains valid for four years, claiming the court failed to properly consider it in its decision.

He also faulted the Umuahia meeting that produced a caretaker committee, describing it as unconstitutional under the party’s rules, arguing that only the National Chairman and National Secretary have the authority to convene NEC meetings.

Abure reaffirmed that the judgment would be appealed, stating that his legal team has already been mobilised to take the matter to the Supreme Court for final determination.
