Chaos In Abuja: PDP Supporters Turn Wadata Plaza Into Free-For-All Battleground.
Supporters of rival factions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) turned Wadata Plaza in Wuse, Abuja, into a battleground on Tuesday as tensions over control of the party escalated into open violence.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, members of both camps clashed fiercely at the PDP national secretariat, trading punches and engaging in heated confrontations while heavily armed police officers attempted to contain the unrest. Images from the scene showed individuals from opposing groups throwing blows, shouting aggressively, and scrambling for dominance around the premises.
The violent outburst stemmed from the deepening leadership tussle between the faction loyal to the newly elected national chairman, Kabiru Turaki, and the camp aligned with Nyesom Wike through his ally, Samuel Anyanwu. Turaki’s bloc enjoys the backing of influential governors such as Oyo State’s Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State’s Bala Mohammed.
Reports gathered by Nivo News indicate that the Anyanwu/Wike group had arrived at the secretariat early in the day, occupying strategic positions within the building. Turaki’s team later stormed the premises alongside supportive governors, triggering a chaotic confrontation as police struggled to maintain order. Witnesses claim teargas was fired as both supporters and security personnel exchanged blows in the escalating fracas.
Governor Bala Mohammed, who stood firmly with the Turaki camp, was quoted as saying that his group would not be intimidated. “We are not leaving. There is no court order stopping our meeting,” he reportedly insisted.
Both factions had scheduled separate meetings for the same location and time—one being a National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) session supported by the Wike group, and the other an inaugural National Working Committee (NWC) meeting planned by Turaki’s leadership. Turaki had earlier stressed that his camp was fully prepared to proceed, declaring that he would lead the meeting personally.
Meanwhile, the Wike-aligned faction continues to dispute the legitimacy of last weekend’s convention that produced Turaki, insisting that the former leadership remains the authentic authority within the party.
Outside the secretariat, tension remained high as supporters on both sides waved placards, chanted slogans, and condemned the opposing faction. Some eyewitnesses alleged that security operatives appeared divided in their response, with accusations of bias as efforts to restore peace faltered amid the chaos.
