Federal High Court Schedules 2025 Christmas Vacation, Key Divisions Stay Open.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the court’s Director of Information, Dr. Catherine Christopher, said the schedule was issued in accordance with a circular authorised by Chief Judge Justice John Tsoho. The announcement was detailed in a document titled “Notice of 2025 Christmas Vacation and Roster for Vacation Judges,” which outlined how the court will operate during the festive period.
Christopher explained that the schedule adheres to Order 46, Rule 4(c) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019 (as amended). She noted that while most divisions will observe the recess, the core judicial hubs in Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt will remain operational to attend to urgent matters.
The court clarified that only specific categories of cases would be addressed during the vacation, including applications on the enforcement of fundamental rights, matters relating to the arrest or release of vessels, and cases deemed to be of urgent national importance. Vacation judges assigned to each division will handle these limited proceedings to ensure continuity of essential judicial services.
The roster of vacation judges is as follows: Justice Emeka Nwite and Justice Musa Liman in Abuja; Justice Akintayo Aluko and Justice Isaac Dipeolu in Lagos; Justice P. M. Ayua and Justice A. T. Mohammed in Port Harcourt; and Justice Folashade Giwa-Ogunbanjo in Enugu. The Chief Judge approved the list to facilitate seamless management of urgent matters while the rest of the court observes the recess.
Christopher also conveyed Chief Judge Tsoho’s festive goodwill message to the judiciary, extending “warm wishes for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year to all Honourable Judges.” She added that the holiday period provides an opportunity for judicial officers and staff to rest after a year of demanding workloads while ensuring critical services remain accessible to the public.
As is customary during the festive season, federal ministries, departments, and agencies are expected to adjust their schedules or partially close while maintaining essential services.
