According to Nivo News, Eze Wogu, who doubles as Chairman of the Aba State Movement, said Governor Otti demonstrated his commitment when the group resubmitted its memorandum to the National Assembly. He stressed that such approvals would not have been granted if the governor were against the agitation, adding that the unanimous signatures clearly reaffirm the state government’s support for the initiative.

Also speaking, the spokesman of the movement and pioneer Attorney-General of Abia State, Theo Nkire, said Governor Otti’s stance is anchored on the pursuit of justice and balance within the country’s geopolitical framework. He explained that while the governor might not generally support the proliferation of states, he has consistently maintained that the South-East deserves a sixth state to achieve parity with other regions.

Nkire criticised the long-standing imbalance that has left the South-East with only five states, while other geopolitical zones have six or more. He argued that the creation of Aba State is widely accepted among people of the region and would help correct a structural injustice.

He further noted that Ohanaeze Ndigbo has adopted Aba State as the collective demand of the region, adding that such unity would bolster the South-East’s position in ongoing national debates around fairness, equity and restructuring.
