President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose for his resilience during his tenure in office. In a congratulatory statement marking Fayose’s 65th birthday, Tinubu highlighted the challenges the former governor faced due to the misuse of presidential powers, which contributed to the premature end of his first term.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

“Although his initial tenure as Governor of Ekiti experienced significant upheaval and was cut short by the abuse of presidential authority, he demonstrated remarkable courage and maintained his composure in adversity,” Tinubu said.

Fayose was removed from office in 2006 following a state of emergency declared by then-President Olusegun Obasanjo, an episode the President referenced in his tribute. Despite this setback, Fayose achieved a historic political comeback in 2014, becoming the first politician in Nigeria to defeat two incumbent governors in separate elections.

Tinubu described Fayose, popularly known as Osokomole, as a fearless politician with a clear and consistent approach to governance. “Osokomole stands firmly by his beliefs, and his clarity and consistency, whether in agreement or disagreement, underscore his strength as a national figure. He speaks his mind without fear or favour,” he added.

The President also praised Fayose’s strong connection with grassroots communities, noting that his nickname Ore Mekunnu, meaning ‘friend of the poor,’ reflects his enduring appeal among ordinary citizens.

Highlighting his developmental record, Tinubu acknowledged Fayose’s achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, and education, as well as the completion of key projects including the State High Court Complex and a new Governor’s Office.
