PDP Convention Blocked By Court as Lamido’s Right To Contest Is Upheld.
The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to suspend its national convention, initially slated for this weekend in Ibadan, Oyo State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Delivering judgment on Friday, Justice Peter Lifu directed that the convention be put on hold until former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido is allowed to obtain a nomination form and participate in the race for the party’s national chairmanship.
Justice Lifu noted that the evidence presented indicated Lamido was “unjustly denied the opportunity to obtain a nomination form,” in violation of the PDP Constitution and its internal regulations. He stressed that political parties have a constitutional duty to ensure a level playing field for all members, stating that parties must “create opportunities for their members to serve by putting deliberate measures in place to enable them to realise their aspirations.”
The court also restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from supervising, monitoring, or recognising any outcome of a convention conducted without Lamido’s participation. The injunction specifically applies to the PDP convention scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
Consequently, Justice Lifu ordered the party to suspend all preparations for the exercise, allow Lamido to purchase his nomination forms, and provide adequate time for him to campaign and rally support.

Hands Off Our Police! Senate Leader Issues Explosive Warning To Shield State Force From Governors And Cabals!.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has emphasized that any proposed state police services must possess guaranteed financial independence to protect them from potential manipulation by governors, political actors, criminal elements, and other powerful interests. Key aspects of Bamidele’s proposal and the National Assembly’s approach include:
-
Addressing Stakeholder Concerns: Bamidele acknowledged that fears regarding the potential abuse of state police by influential individuals are legitimate and well-founded, noting that these concerns are partially rooted in Nigeria’s experience with regional police control during the First Republic.
-
Multi-layered Safeguards: The National Assembly is working to develop a system of checks and safeguards designed to ensure professional discipline, institutional independence, and financial autonomy.
-
Judiciary-Style Funding: To prevent police chiefs from being subject to the “whims and caprices” of state governors, Bamidele suggested a funding model similar to that of the judiciary, which is protected under the Constitution and does not require routine executive approval.
-
Constitutional Guarantees: Bamidele stated that the 1999 Constitution should provide guaranteed funding sources for both State Commissioners of Police and State Police Service Commissions.
-
Continued Engagement: The National Assembly intends to maintain stakeholder engagement throughout the constitutional amendment process required to establish state police services across the country.
