The allegations first emerged on social media earlier this week and gained traction after a Nigerian technology publication highlighted a series of Olubi’s tweets from a decade ago containing sexually suggestive and inappropriate remarks.
In a statement, Paystack confirmed Olubi’s immediate suspension as the company conducts a formal internal investigation. “Paystack is aware of the allegations involving our co-founder, Ezra Olubi. We take matters of this nature extremely seriously. Effective immediately, Ezra has been suspended from all duties and responsibilities pending the outcome of a formal investigation,” the statement read. These posts reportedly included explicit sexual references, some involving coworkers and minors. One tweet from 2011 reportedly stated: “Monday will be more fun with an ‘a’ in it. Olubi co-founded Paystack in 2015 alongside CEO Shola Akinlade. The company quickly rose to prominence as one of Africa’s leading technology firms, culminating in its 2020 acquisition by Stripe in a deal valued at over $200 million.
