The graduation ceremony, held at the Orile-Agege LCDA, was strategically scheduled to coincide with the 53rd birthday celebration of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, in recognition of his impactful leadership and contributions to community development.
The event drew the presence of political leaders, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders, all of whom commended the initiative as a crucial step toward tackling youth unemployment and promoting self-reliance. Participants were trained across five key vocational areas—event planning and decoration, beauty and aesthetics, hair styling and wig making, catering, and ICT. Each trainee received daily transportation stipends, while instructors were duly compensated for their services.
Chairman of Orile-Agege LCDA, Hon. Akinola Idowu (Dodo), reaffirmed his commitment to the Speaker’s vision and praised Hon. Ahmed for aligning the empowerment scheme with Obasa’s birthday celebration. He described the beneficiaries as privileged among thousands of jobless youths in Agege and Orile-Agege, announcing a personal donation of ₦100,000 each from himself and his vice-chairman, Hon. Wale Fayemi, to all the participants. He urged the graduates to use the funds wisely, register their voter cards, and get involved in politics, stressing that leadership starts with civic participation.
Hon. Ahmed, in his remarks, appreciated both past and present LCDA chairmen for their support, explaining that the initiative was designed to equip youths with employable skills and encourage self-sufficiency. He emphasized discipline and attendance during the programme, noting that any participant who missed four days of training was denied certification.
He further announced an empowerment package of ₦100,000 for each graduate, adding to the ₦100,000 donation from the LCDA Chairman, bringing the total support to ₦200,000 per participant.
Ganiu Vinod Obasa, who also addressed the gathering, commended Hon. Ahmed for investing in young people through skill acquisition, urging the graduates to translate their training into entrepreneurship and job creation.
Certificates were presented to representatives of each department by dignitaries, including Hon. Ahmed, Alhaji Adisa Adaranijo, Elder Sunday Ejide, and Hon. Idowu. The event featured cultural displays, a fashion parade, and the presentation of appreciation gifts by the trainees to their instructors. The ceremony ended amid applause as the new graduates pledged to utilize their skills for community development.
Notable personalities in attendance included Alhaji Ganiu Owolabi Dada, Alhaji Safari Adisa Adaranijo, Alhaji H.A.K. Oderinde, Hon. Akinola Abiodun Idowu, Hon. Wale Fayemi, Ganiu Vinod Obasa, Oba Abdul Lateef Egbeyemi (the Ologba of Ogba), several Baales, and women leaders.
