Tension At National Assembly As Protesters Demand Ramat’s NERC Confirmation.

Tension flared at the National Assembly on Tuesday, November 11, as demonstrators stormed the complex to demand the immediate confirmation of President Bola Tinubu’s nominee for the position of Chairman, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Abdullahi Ramat.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Nivo News, the protesters, comprising Ramat’s supporters, civil society organizations, and rights activists, chanted solidarity songs and carried placards bearing messages such as “President Tinubu Did Not Send Nominees to be Harassed” and “Ramat Represents Reform in Power Sector.”

Their protest followed the Senate’s decision last month to suspend Ramat’s confirmation despite his successful screening by the Senate Committee on Power, chaired by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.

Addressing journalists, Ahmed Suleiman, leader of the Grassroots Initiative Concept and spokesperson for the demonstrators, disclosed that petitions had been sent to President Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, urging them to intervene. Suleiman lamented that despite Ramat’s qualifications and experience, “certain vested interests” were attempting to frustrate his appointment.

He expressed disappointment over the Senate’s decision to step down Ramat’s confirmation on October 22, describing it as politically motivated. “Mr Ramat has the academic credentials, technical expertise, and proven competence for the job. What is happening is an orchestrated attempt to malign his reputation,” Suleiman stated, warning that such actions could discourage other qualified Nigerians from serving their country.

The protesters insisted that Ramat’s confirmation was vital to Nigeria’s unity, energy reform, and the overall success of the Tinubu administration, urging Senate leaders not to yield to political manipulation.

The development came days after the Senate warned former presidential aide Alwan Hassan over allegations that lawmakers received a $10 million bribe to halt Ramat’s confirmation. Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu dismissed the claim as baseless and mischievous, noting that Ramat’s case was not unique, as other nominees had also been stepped down over public petitions.

Adaramodu emphasized that the Senate would not confirm any candidate “under a cloud of public concern,” adding that Hassan would be compelled to present evidence in court.

While Ramat’s nomination remains pending, Nigerians continue to express growing discontent over escalating electricity tariffs and worsening power supply across the country. The Senate is expected to revisit the matter after completing its review of the petitions.

For now, the standoff over the NERC leadership appears to be deepening, with protesters, lawmakers, and interest groups all entrenched in a mounting political showdown.

TRAGEDY COMPOUNDED: 15 Dead In Benue, But Alia And PDP Prefer Fighting Each Other Than Finding Answers!.

Following the tragic murder of 15 residents in the Efeyi Ugboju community of Otukpo Local Government Area on Tuesday, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have engaged in a bitter exchange of accusations.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In separate releases on Wednesday, the opposition party and its 2027 gubernatorial hopeful, Michael Aondoakaa, slammed Governor Alia, alleging a lack of effective leadership and an inability to safeguard citizens. Conversely, the governor hit back, claiming that the opposition is cynically capitalizing on a security disaster for political mileage.

Speaking through its Publicity Secretary, Bright Antyo, the PDP condemned the administration’s sluggish reaction to ongoing violence. The party asserted that true leadership requires decisive action and empathy rather than empty words—qualities they claim are missing under the current administration.

Aondoakaa further charged that the state government is prioritizing the suppression of dissent over tackling the root causes of insecurity. He lamented that communities remain vulnerable to constant invasions and farmer displacements, yet officials treat public criticism as a graver threat than the attackers themselves, noting that the bloodshed persists despite government denials.

In his defense, Governor Alia, via his Chief Press Secretary Tersoo Kula, argued that the crisis demands collective compassion and unity instead of partisan assaults. The governor emphasized that his administration remains deeply committed to tackling insecurity by providing security agencies with robust logistics, intelligence support, personnel motivation, and collaboration with local vigilante networks to restore lasting peace.
