Fatodu made the remarks on Friday when a delegation from Flykite Productions, the organisers of GOtv Boxing Night, visited his office at the Teslim Balogun Stadium. The team informed the Commission of plans for the 34th edition of the event, scheduled to hold on December 26 at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos.
Describing GOtv Boxing Night as one of the most enduring private-sector initiatives in Nigerian sports, Fatodu said the event has revived public interest in boxing while providing a platform for young fighters to showcase their skills. He added that the initiative deserves full support, noting that it has consistently delivered world-class entertainment to fans and contributed to the growth of Nigerian boxing.
He assured the Flykite team of the Commission’s backing for the upcoming edition and pledged close collaboration to ensure a successful event. Fatodu emphasized that Lagos State, under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, remains committed to fostering a vibrant sports culture and supporting credible private promoters.
“Our vision is to make Lagos the sports capital of Africa, and partnerships like this help drive that goal. We will provide the necessary institutional backing to ensure the event continues to thrive,” he said.
Earlier, Mr. Bamidele Johnson, Chief Operating Officer of Flykite Productions, expressed gratitude to the Commission for its continued support. He highlighted Lagos as the home of GOtv Boxing Night since its inception, praising the state’s hospitality, facilities, and enthusiastic sports fans.
Johnson revealed that the December edition, themed Jam Festiva, will feature top Nigerian boxers across various weight categories, live musical performances by leading artists, and a touch of comedy to combine elite sports with entertainment.
He said the event will return to TBS, an iconic venue that has hosted many memorable editions of GOtv Boxing Night, promising that the upcoming edition would be bigger and better. The event will be broadcast live on SuperSport.
