According to Nivo News, the allegations were raised by the governorship candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chukwuma Soludo; Labour Party (LP), George Moghalu; and African Action Congress (AAC), Chioma Ifemeludike. They had accused certain individuals of inducing voters with cash ranging from ₦3,000 to ₦5,000 in Nnewi South and other parts of the state. Reports claimed the activities were coordinated by unidentified political agents around various polling centres.

Responding to the allegations during an interview on Channels Television’s News at 10, the Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Queen Agwu, dismissed the accusations as baseless, insisting that no verified complaints were received from any credible source.

“Vote-buying is a serious electoral offence. If anyone has tangible evidence, they should present it. You cannot go on national television and make allegations without proof,” Agwu stated.

She explained that INEC closely monitored the election through its situation room and found no substantiated case of voter inducement or irregularities from field officers or accredited observers.

“From our situation room, there was no report of material delays or confirmed vote-buying. None of our officials or observers reported such incidents. As far as we’re concerned, these claims remain rumours, and rumours cannot stand without proof,” she added.

Agwu admitted that there were isolated cases of tension in certain areas but maintained that the overall conduct of the election was peaceful and orderly.

Speaking on voter turnout, the REC noted that it would be premature to draw conclusions until full collation of polling unit figures was completed, although preliminary observations indicated encouraging participation.

Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) confirmed the arrest of three suspects for alleged vote-buying during the election. The suspects — Emeka Ilokasia from Njikoka Local Government Area, Nwachukwu Loretta from Oyi LGA, and Emuka Chuwudi from Dunukofia LGA — were apprehended in different locations.
