“Bishop Kukah Blasts Politicians: We Need Laws, Not Saints To Lead Nigeria”
According to Nivo News, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah, has declared that Nigeria’s democracy will only thrive when the rule of law is given precedence over the personalities of political leaders.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs in Lagos during the presentation of books authored by journalist and former presidential spokesperson, Reuben Abati, Kukah criticized the rampant culture of political defections across the country. He argued that elected officials who defect from the parties that brought them to power should automatically forfeit their positions.
The outspoken cleric maintained that Nigeria’s democratic instability stems from weak laws rather than a lack of moral leaders. He cited Ghana’s political system as a model, noting that the country’s constitution compels a fresh election within 42 days when an elected official defects—and bars the defector from contesting in that election.
“Credible elections are necessary, but they are not enough to institutionalize democracy,” Kukah said. “We must make laws that protect our political values. In Ghana, if you defect, you lose your seat and can’t contest in the rerun. That’s why their democracy is stronger.”
Kukah dismissed the popular belief that good governance depends solely on having “good men” in office. “Many of us think that all we need are good people to govern us—absolute nonsense!” he declared. “What we need are good laws to restrain even the best among us from abusing power.”
The cleric further highlighted Ghana’s reform efforts, pointing out that the Speaker of Parliament is appointed by the President and must renounce party loyalty upon assumption of office—an arrangement he said fosters unity and national focus.
He concluded by urging Nigeria to clearly define its foundational values and collective identity, lamenting that the nation’s divisions persist because it lacks universally acknowledged founding figures who embody national ideals and moral direction.

European Royalty Retained: PSG Defeats Arsenal 4-3 On Penalties To Lift the Champions League Trophy.
Paris Saint-Germain have retained the UEFA Champions League title after a thrilling 4-3 penalty shootout victory over Arsenal. The final, held at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary, on May 30, 2026, ended 1-1 after extra time.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The match began with an immediate impact from Arsenal, as Kai Havertz capitalized on a pass from Leandro Trossard to put the London club ahead within the first six minutes. Arsenal maintained their lead for much of the first half, successfully frustrating the French champions.
The momentum shifted in the 63rd minute when a VAR review resulted in a penalty for PSG. Ousmane Dembélé stepped up to the spot and converted two minutes later, bringing the score level at 1-1. Despite intense efforts from both sides during the remainder of regulation and throughout extra time, neither team could find a winning goal.
The title was ultimately decided by penalties. In the shootout, PSG held their nerve, with Lucas Beraldo converting their final spot-kick. With Arsenal needing to score to force sudden death, defender Gabriel Magalhães sent his effort over the bar, sealing a 4-3 victory for the French side.
This triumph marks a historic achievement for PSG, who become the first French club to win the UEFA Champions League title in two consecutive seasons, having defeated Inter Milan 5-0 in the 2025 final. The victory also places head coach Luis Enrique among an elite group of managers to have secured at least three European Cup titles.
