In a statement personally signed by the President on Friday to commemorate Abati’s 60th birthday, Tinubu commended the respected columnist and former Chairman of The Guardian Editorial Board for his decades of distinguished service to journalism, literature, and the nation at large.
According to Nivo News, President Tinubu lauded Abati’s versatility and dedication, describing him as a “public intellectual, author, columnist, law graduate, and broadcaster who has excelled in every sphere — academia, the newsroom, and public service.”
The President further praised Abati’s incisive writings and regular commentaries, noting that his insightful analyses and television appearances continue to enlighten and inspire Nigerians.
Tinubu also acknowledged Abati’s time as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to former President Goodluck Jonathan, commending his professionalism, patriotism, and creativity in handling national issues. He noted that Abati’s passion for truth and his ability to infuse cross-sectoral experience into public commentary have made him a highly respected voice in both traditional and digital media.
Highlighting his literary contributions, President Tinubu congratulated Abati on the launch of his three new books — Portraits: People, Politics and Society, A Love Letter and Other Stories, and How Goodluck Jonathan Became President — unveiled to mark his 60th birthday celebration.
“I congratulate Dr. Abati, whom I fondly call Rubi Rubi, and join his colleagues in the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), family, and friends in celebrating this outstanding writer,” the President stated.
