Court Reserves Judgment After Nnamdi Kanu Fails To Open Defence.
Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed November 20 as the date to deliver ruling in the ongoing terrorism case involving the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, the decision was reached after Kanu failed to open his defence within the six days earlier allotted to him by the court. Justice Omotosho held that Kanu, having been given ample opportunity to defend himself, could not claim to have been denied his constitutional right to a fair hearing.
During Friday’s proceedings, Kanu, who chose to represent himself after dismissing his legal team, filed a fresh motion challenging both the validity of the charges and the court’s jurisdiction to continue his trial.
The court had earlier adjourned proceedings for an hour following Kanu’s request to prepare his defence. However, upon resumption, he submitted that his prosecution was anchored on what he described as a “non-existent law.”
Kanu further argued that the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act—under which he was charged—had already been repealed, rendering the entire trial invalid. The court subsequently reserved its ruling until November 20, when a final decision on the matter will be delivered.
