Egbetokun highlighted Lagos as a unique security environment that often serves as a model for policing across the nation. He explained that the new facility, which replaces an older structure, will function as a conference center while supporting various operational needs of the command. “As we are laying bricks, we are also laying hope and stronger bonds for efficient policing in Nigeria, professionalism, discipline, and excellent service,” he said.
The I-G called on police commissioners nationwide to emulate the initiative, stressing the importance of investing in infrastructure and service delivery in law enforcement.
Addressing security preparations for the upcoming Anambra gubernatorial election, scheduled for Saturday, Egbetokun assured Nigerians that the police are fully prepared, with senior officers deployed to supervise all security operations. He urged voters to exercise their franchise freely, emphasizing that the police have no affiliation with any candidate and remain loyal to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Turning to festive security measures, the I-G confirmed that preparations for the Christmas and New Year period are underway across all commands, assuring the public that adequate measures are in place to ensure safe travel and celebrations.
On the recent rise in crimes such as banditry and kidnapping, Egbetokun stressed the importance of a community-based approach. “Security is not something provided in silos. We must work in synergy with other security agencies and all communities in Nigeria,” he said, urging citizens to assist by avoiding the spread of false information.
He commended officers for risking their lives daily to protect Nigerians and called for national cooperation in building a safer country.
