According to Nivo News, Shekarau made the statement during a press briefing held to mark his 70th birthday, where he reflected on his life journey and expressed gratitude to God for sparing his life and sustaining his health. He noted that his continued participation in politics should not be mistaken for an intention to contest for any elective position, emphasizing that his involvement stems from conviction rather than ambition.
He said, “Politics is part of my religion, and with this belief, I see no day I will get out of the political circle. I have seen so many things in this life, but I thank God for preserving me to continue in good health and in my political journey. My remaining in politics does not mean I am contesting any position; my politics is not about contest but conviction.”
The former minister also expressed deep concern about the worsening insecurity across the country, lamenting that innocent Nigerians are being killed mercilessly. He called for stronger government action to reduce criminality to the barest minimum, stating that the current situation is unacceptable.
On the economy, Shekarau maintained that any discussion about economic progress must translate into tangible benefits for the masses, otherwise it remains meaningless. He urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to focus more on protecting lives and property, noting that the safety and welfare of citizens should remain the government’s top priority.
