Wike Mocks Atiku, Damagum Over PDP Crisis, Says They Were Never Loyal.
According to Nivo News, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has mocked the embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Damagum, calling him a “tax collector” unfit to lead the opposition.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Wike, who made the remarks during a televised interview on Politics Today, accused Damagum of lacking integrity and being driven solely by financial gain. He alleged that during the PDP’s internal leadership crisis, Damagum was so detached that he didn’t even know who represented the party in court, claiming he personally intervened to stabilize the party at the time.
“Damagum did not even know who his lawyer was when we went to court. That was how we were able to stabilize and keep Damagum,” Wike said, asserting that the PDP chairman has always been motivated by money rather than loyalty or principle.
“But you see, as a tax collector, he will always be. Damagum is a tax collector. He doesn’t need to work with the FIRS; he’s a company tax collector. That’s who he is—someone who thinks money is everything in life,” the minister added.
Challenging Damagum to take legal action if he felt defamed, Wike stated boldly, “Let Damagum go to court and sue me. He knows he cannot.”
Wike’s comments come amid escalating tensions within the PDP, as factions led by Damagum and Samuel Anyanwu continue to clash over the party’s direction.
He also criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, saying his defection from the PDP was inevitable. Wike accused Atiku and his associates of repeatedly destabilizing the party, noting that their recent move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) confirmed their lack of loyalty.
“Atiku has no choice but to go. Someone who wants to use the PDP, knowing that I am there, cannot get that platform. These are people who destroyed the party,” Wike declared.
The minister further mocked his critics who once accused him of working secretly for the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying it was ironic that many of them have now joined the ruling party.
“The man you said was working for APC to destroy PDP is still in the PDP, while you have all gone to join the APC,” he said.
When asked if he was pleased about their exit, Wike responded sharply, “They were never committed.”
